Having qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the objective was to curate a memorable and personalized celebration of the Banyana Squad. Our response was “Banyana in Numbers” – a concept and theme that alluded to the nation as the 23rd player of the squad, while serving to address and advance grassroots women’s football within the community of Soweto and Johannesburg at large. On 4th March, we ignited Banyana’s road to WC19 by celebrating, acknowledging and inspiring the Future Of Sport. We activated and authenticated a music-infused, small-sided football tournament in the heart of Soweto. With an action-packed football tournament by day and a thrilling music concert by night, our proud Banyana team received the enthusiasm and collective cheers not only of the attendees, but across social media. From our exhibition football teams wearing jerseys in celebration of the 22 players selected, to the concluding performance of “Shibobo” by Legends TKZEE, it was a celebratory extravaganza intended to catapult our champions to the the world stage with the loyalty and support of their nation in tow.
